While not a serious cracker (like *some* people around here that we know, right alex? :) ), I've become intensely aware recently of WiFi SSID names.

As those of you who have an iPhone know, one of the "neat" features of the thing is that it is constantly looking for WiFi connections and asking you if you want to connect, and since I got one I've been quite amused at what I've found!

This thread has two goals:

  1. Practical: What are the default names tied to which manufacturers? Some are obvious like "linksys" but I see a lot of "2wireXXX": anyone know what that is?
  2. Fun: People like to have fun with their names too. Since we like cows around here, our SSID is "Cowtown." There's a place at the halfway point on my daily jog though where some paranoid person has used "F%#* You Hackers!" Seen any amusing ones?

Post away!

This network has security enabled,

I think its the default on 2wire's "home portal" device, possibly all 2wire products. In St. Louis, at least, AT&T's DSL service will sell customers who want wireless this device, which seems to be a ridiculously over-featured router.
