HydrogenBond Posted November 20, 2007 Report Posted November 20, 2007 I am sort of guessing here. Environmental studies is more connected to the overall environmental policy and the existing laws and how they affect both business and the environment. It may involve compliance. An environmental engineer is more in the field overseeing some type of clean-up or business compliance to the law. He is not necessarily doing the work but is offering support and oversight. He is an expert in the laws and will assure that compliance is met. He may even act as an intermediary helping the situation by offering ideas and expertise. The environmental scientist is more connected to research. Knowing what the standards are today and in the future, they try to assist the goal of the agency by coming up with new ideas for how to deal with problems. The chemical engineer is the person who does a little of all. If there is going to be a clean-up site, he will be at meetings where the above three will also get together, with business representatives to strategize. If the process needs a facility, he may meet periodically with the design engineers. He may even stay in the field overseeing the construction process. Once it is being tested, but before official start-up, he meets with development. Once it is up and running he meets with process engineers. He also reports to his own people to make sure everything is adding up on both sides. This would actually be an advance engineering position with 10+ years. Quote
