robnibg Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 Hi there, Does excessive sugar leach bones from calcium? If so, to what extent and how quickly? Quote
palmtreepathos Posted November 22, 2007 Report Posted November 22, 2007 Since sugar is converted to other elements by digestion it will be a different mechanism that causes such damage... but there is plenty of proof that to the degree that sugary foods replace nutritionally dense foods there will be negative biological activities going on in the body. Your genetic inheritance may be a factor in how soon the effects are discernable. Did your parents eat like farmers, were plenty of whole foods eaten? You may have a few years leeway before obvious problems appear due to a healthy structural start, but bacteria, medical treatments and personal habits can take a toll quickly, as can be seen from a common problem in infancy*....Also proper amounts of sun exposure keep Vit D levels on track which helps the body with bone strength.
