alexander Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 So as most of you know, analog TV in the states is parting ways to let the digital take over. This however opens up a 22MHz range within the 700MHz range up for bids early this year. As most of you don't know, the companies bidding for this range may include Verizon, AT&T and Google. Google? you say... Yes, the God of the internet has shown interest in investing at least 4.6bill into this rather broad range, and be sure that the other wireless giants will follow. Unlike the overcrowded 2.4GHz range, 700MHz has distinct advantages. It pretty seemingly traverses man-made objects making it a pretty ideal range for setting up a wireless network. From everything i have read so far, Google is planning just that, you get a card, subscribe to service and will be able to get internet anywhere on the go (probably in the US first) with your google account, and at broadband speeds! Though the 4.6 billion dollar price tag set as a minimum bid for the range by the FCC is quite steep, google has been looking at investors interested in contributing. Also the regulation for the range right now is that it must be used for a publically available product, although if no company meets the price tag, the range will be split into smaller ranges and auctioned off for less money.... Just figure i'd give you Google fans a heads up, we may be getting world-wide broadband in the near future Quote
