bigsam1965 Posted January 31, 2008 Report Posted January 31, 2008 My name is Sam Shanks. Some of you may know me from other forums. I use the same username to post on those forums. I am a university lecturer. I teach engineering mechanics. I have a PhD in engineering, mathematics, and computer science. Before becoming a Lecturer, I worked in industry developing and applying computational physics computer programs to the design of aircraft and rockets. I received the 1985 H. Julian Allen Award from NASA for research in the redesign of the Space Shuttle main engine. I am very interested in new developments in physics, mathematics, and engineering technology. At the moment, I am particularly interested in cosmology and I have some theories of my own as some of you may already know. So let's have some fun. Quote
freeztar Posted January 31, 2008 Report Posted January 31, 2008 Welcome Sam! :xx: Thanks for the thoughtful introduction. That's quite an impressive list of accomplishments. I'm sure you will find (and hopefully) create many interesting discussions here related to your interests. Plus, it's always good to have another bona fide teacher among us, not to mention computer scientist that has worked on rockets. ;) Come to think of it, you'd probably be interested in this thread where we are (well, not recently) working on design concepts to compete in the Google X-prize competition to land rovers on the moon. http://hypography.com/forums/spaceship-design/12819-hypography-x-prize-entry.html?highlight=x-prize Have fun! CraigD Posted January 31, 2008 Report Posted January 31, 2008 If it will attract more of you, perhaps we should put a banner on our homepage reading "Award-winning rocket scientists always welcome!" ;) In any case, welcome. Even if you chose to leave your usual interests at the office and just have pure, unbridled fun here, I look forward to it. :xx: Quote
