Essay Posted February 29, 2008 Report Posted February 29, 2008 ...groanNow I have to think of something to write, eh?...'course with a name such as Essay, I should be able to....Actually the name comes from my initials SA, but I do value writing and sometimes even try to do it with a bit of style. [hahaha; he said "do it."] Rhetoricians do it with style! Thanks for the warm welcome; I hope I can be worthy. I've heard good things about Hypography from other science fora. I never pass up a chance to attempt a joke or try a pun when responding to folks; but I try not to be mean (unless it's just too tempting). I generally won't respond if I can't say something positive, and that applies to trolls too; but trolls are a special case and sometimes I try to engage a troll (or loon) to see if I can learn something (or perhaps even teach something). I'm often surprised at the inspiration that comes from such interactions. I have a broad science, social sciences, and humanities background and have worked many years in a research library. I'm not religious; but try to be spiritual, and respect and find value in all faiths. My interests include humanity, physics, cosmology (lots of loons here), evolution (lots of trolls there), earth sciences, anthropology, psychology, and philosophy, etc. Climate Change is my main motivation for reaching out and trying to contribute a bit to changing the Zeitgeist.I feel pretty lucky to be alive (at the dawn of Earth's 6th Mass Extinction event*) and feel as if I should try to save some of this wonderful, rich biological heritage to help others similarly blessed in the future. (*per E. O. Wilson) I've studied enough to understand the problems and see some solutions (now if I could just convince others; LOL).Okay, maybe I can be a bit of a loon myself when it comes to global warming (and even cosmology too); but I think I'm open minded, and hope I contribute to others enrichment (if not, just enjoyment) when I'm ranting about something. Favorite GW mantra is: Synergistic Sustainability & Sequestration.Favorite biophysics quote: Life is just Nature's way of turning light into heat.~SA Tormod 1 Quote

Essay Posted March 20, 2008 Author Report Posted March 20, 2008 Hey, Thanks!I only wish I could spend more time online; but I have a life, kids, hair to cut, copy to cut, etc.I think this is more important, but my wife disagrees. :) Quote
Essay Posted May 2, 2008 Author Report Posted May 2, 2008 End of the semester busy season.... Too busy to post (much), but my Kindle (I just discovered) allows me to browse the current Hypography fora at a moments notice (even at traffic lights!). [Kindle... electronic book... amazondotcom...] Always online, with no fees or subscriptions, it's a dream come true. But my driving suffers as I speculate on how I'll respond later. ;) Quote
