C1ay Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 Mysteriously, five spacecraft that flew past the Earth have each displayed unexpected anomalies in their motions. These newfound enigmas join the so-called "Pioneer anomaly" as hints that unexplained forces may appear to act on spacecraft. A decade ago, after rigorous analyses, anomalies were seen with the identical Pioneer 10 and 11 spacecraft as they hurtled out of the solar system. Both seemed to experience a tiny but unexplained constant acceleration toward the sun. A host of explanations have been bandied about for the Pioneer anomaly. At times these are rooted in conventional science — perhaps leaks from the spacecraft have affected their trajectories. At times these are rooted in more speculative physics — maybe the law of gravity itself needs to be modified.... More at Space.com.... Quote
Mike C Posted March 12, 2008 Report Posted March 12, 2008 I have thought about this in the past and have concluded that the Sun is surrounded by positive charged sphere of particles ejected from the Sun that are in a state of balance between 'fall back' gravitational pull and their mutual repulsion to remain in suspension around the Sun. So if the pioneers passed through this sphere, than it could exert a pull on these satelites to create this anamoly. Mike C Quote
HydrogenBond Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 In the physics-math tread, I started a discussion about potential, where potential can go up before it goes down, as long as the final affect lowers the overall potential. This appears to be such an affect. The sun is using a little potential up front with the hope of a final affect. Sort of like the solar siphon being primed, upfront, so the potential can go down hill. Quote
