Just an old retired horticulture teacher/researcher here, looking forward to some stimulating thoughts and discussions. While my research is dated, tho it was cutting edge at the time (1966-1972), I really loved teaching and am told I was good at it. I loved challenging the students and being challenged by them. My exams were always open-book (I don't think memorization is learning) and problem solving, e.g. life!

wow i like you alredy, you are the first person in like 10 introductions who is not going to get "another RIE" beginnig :) RIE, for those of you who are pondering, stands for Reading Is Essential, and it refers to the fact that the intro post is there to introduce yourself and tell us (the rest of people here) about you.

Also open book tests are really cool, i wish i had you as a teacher (btw was homework necessary and due every class?)

But yeah, in my now tradition, welcome to Hypography, the only place you know where teachers may become students of current students ;)

What kind of research, and what did you used to teach?

Excuse me for not responding quickly - have some health issues that interfer at times with my computer time.

Got my degrees in Horticulture (Penn State and Mich. State). Original work was in biochemical genetics - wish I could do similar research now with all the new technology. Later became interested in plant culture in soilless media and plant nutrition. Taught at UGA-Athens and UMO-Columbia then at an Ag High School in KC, MO.

How about you? I stand ready to learn from others in other fields.

well i am what you would refer to as that magical computer fix-it pixie, work as a sysadmin in a company of 5-600 ppl, student, 4th year going to a community college and just taking random classes, i will eventually get some sort of a degree, but yeah took all computer classes, now i want to take all physics courses, almost done with math, thinking of chem... i just like to learn, though i have little time to actually do it. Eventually i will transfer to a university, go for B then M and hopefully Ph D, though it's not clear to me right now, i am interested and working on so many different things... I want to get more into physics at some point, and chemistry would be fun too, though i remember from taking some intro to chem courses that it was never my nitch, unlike physics which i really like, enjoy, but have little time to study :P
