hanginout Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 Hi, this is Justin from Imminst.org. Glad to meet you all. May we all live long and healthy. Now onto my shameless plug. Something I thought a few people here might be interested in. The Longevitymeme and Imminst.org are offering a prize for people who participate in the Standford Folding@home project. It is a distributed computing project that is dedicated to describing the mysteries of protein folding. You can help basic science, cure disease, and win money all at the same time. details here: Announcing the F@H Prize | Imminst.org - Immortality Institute Quote
Tormod Posted March 30, 2008 Report Posted March 30, 2008 Welcome to Hypography! Usually we look upon shameless plugs from new members as SPAM, but in your case we'll allow it if this doesn't become your only post. :hihi: Quote
hanginout Posted March 30, 2008 Author Report Posted March 30, 2008 Sorry about that. I understand if you want to delete the post, its alright. Just thought distributed computing would interest some folks around here...especially those who read the comp sci. section. I think the Folding@home, Rosetta@home, BOINC, etc... have great potential to help discover cures for many terrible diseases. Here's hoping more people find out about these efforts. Quote
alexander Posted March 31, 2008 Report Posted March 31, 2008 It's not that we are anywhere near being against that, is how you have made us perceive it. It's all in the wording, and posting it in a correct section... the difference is, if you posted it in computer science and said something like "hey check out this new distributed computing software. they are working on this and that, if you have a spare machine, it something you should look into." and then give a few links.... it would not be preceived as spam.... per say. hanginout Posted March 31, 2008 Author Report Posted March 31, 2008 Thanks for the tip Alexander. I guess I was thinking it would be better to be upfront and honest, instead of beating around the bush. Quote
