Hello! My name is Mary and I currently live in Northeast Arkansas. I stumbled across this site while searching for information on the wild violets that live in my yard :)

My interests include gardening, photography, restoring my historical house and thousands of other things!

It's very nice to meet all of you!

Thanks for the warm welcome :)

I should probably look into the Gardening Group after I retake my photos. I used my husband's camera, which I hate, and the photos did not come out good at all. Maybe someone can help me with identification in that group!

I've been doing some photography recently as well, though gardening isn't quite my, um, kink, I shall still hereby welcome you :)

Welcome to Hypography, the only place you know where the biochemical speak used to describe the soil and fertilizers for the flower gardens, sometimes, but rarely resembles English....

alexander: Hmmm...biochemicals for soil, should be interesting, although I'm not the science type :D I can hold a decent conversation, which, more times than not, MAY resemble English. Kind of

Still haven't retaken the pics of the wild violets and such in the yard. It was a lazy day today!

It is a sort of tradition, kind of my thing, i try to greet any person who seems cool with their own hypography welcoming line (and i tell you, these things get more difficult to write as i write more of them)

can't wait to see those pictures

Please check out the "Terra Preta" sub-forum.

Lots of quirky gardening stuff there.

...and more insight or inspiration is always welcome.

Terra Preta needs a better name.

Any suggestions?

"Biogenic soil" sounds too sciency, but I think it's descriptive (and maybe not original either).

Cheers!

Terra Preta is actually a pretty awesome name, in my view, it creates a historical paradox of something so old and known, reborn in something so new and scientific.

It's like the naming of anything NASA sends in space, eloquent yet contradictory

Welcome Mary! :)

We can never have enough plant lovers imo. ;)

I suppose it is my pic that led you here then? If so, great! I hope it helped you with your ID. Note that those same violets can also be white.

I hope you stick around and join in the discusions and put some photos up in the "Wildflowers" or "Gardening" social groups. :)

What about "Armegeddon Dirt"???

"Honey? What are you doing outside?"

"Armegeddon Dirt for my new garden, sweetie."

Too long;

...but thanks for the best laugh this week!

Yep, I'll be around  The weather (between the severe storms) is gorgeous so I spend most of my time outside. Then the kids get home from school and it's Chaos Central. After dinner comes "mosquito feasting on me time" if I'm outside. I guess they just love my desert blood!

On that note, I spent 20-odd years in Vegas and surrounding areas, then moved to Arkansas in September. The flora and fauna are more interesting here, that's for sure! Then again, if you can grow a full garden in southern Nevada, you can pretty much do it anywhere! :nono:

I'll check out the other forums on gardening and such, and I already joined the Wildflowers group, but again, haven't taken any new photos. Maybe I'll tackle that today. After laundry :hihi: Yuck.

Aaaaw, just when i started to think that girls liked doing laundry, cooking, cleaning and stuff.... ;) jk

Yes, the natural state of the universe.... Remember the second law of thermodynamics? (yes, yes i will remind you what it is, i'm generally pretty nice :) )

Rudolf Clausius 1856

[math]\int\frac{\delta\Theta}{T}=-N[/math]

The -N in this case is the equivalence-value, represents entropy

Clausius, upon realizing this 9 years later, in 1865, concluded:

The entropy of the universe tends to a maximum.

It's my favorite law for anything that deals with clutter... :)

Welcome Mary, this is great place to discuss almost anything and sometimes we even learn something! You might notice that some of what is said here closely resembles a certian type of organic fertilizer all of us who grew up farming know about:hihi: I'm all about growing my own.... vegtables and such:doh:
