Mr.bluebottle Posted May 6, 2008 Report Posted May 6, 2008 Hi all. This started from an oral sample incubated at 37C for 18 hours in nutrient agar. It looks unique compared to everything else in the petri dish. This is x10 magnification. Quote
Not half- but whole! Posted May 7, 2008 Report Posted May 7, 2008 To ID I would recommend some sort of selective media. 3M makes a wide range of "petri-films" that are selective and could give you a good idea of what general type of bacteria you are dealing with. To specifically ID it you would need to stain it and run a narrowing series of selective media, or run it on a bio-log (or something like that) auto-mated ID system. Quote
Mr.bluebottle Posted May 11, 2008 Author Report Posted May 11, 2008 hey thanks for the response Not half, but whole!I just thought some old pro could just see it and help identify it. Here is another one - I think this is Candida_albcans_chlamydospores but most of the spores have come off.any help would be greatly appreciated Quote
nutronjon Posted May 11, 2008 Report Posted May 11, 2008 Man, am I glad to see people talking about these colonies! My family makes fun of me for growing mold and getting excited by it, and I have felt very alone with this interest. Not that I am knowledgeable about it as you are, but it fascinates me. Red mold seems to be the hardest to get. I had some mold that sort of looked a drawing of an eye, or a solar system, and I kept it for a long time. I kept some mold in a plastic container, until all the air was consumed and the plastic was sucked in by a vacuum. I didn't know this would happen, and I was delighted by what was a new discovery for me. Quote
Mr.bluebottle Posted May 12, 2008 Author Report Posted May 12, 2008 Yes but does anyone know what Candida_albcans looks like on an light microscope slide? Here is an electron microscope picture of Candida_albcans_chlamydosporeshttp://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn243/Mrbluebottle/Candida_albcans_chlamydospores.jpgDo you think it is the same? Without the spores of course. Thanks again Quote
