Folke Günther Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 Hello everybody!I just realized that you are dscussing. terrapreta and carbon sequestration around here, from a member, Michael Bailes of the Terra Preta | Intentional use of charcoal in soil list. Since the atmospherc CO2 level currently is arond 385 ppm, and the safe evel is below 350 ppm, I think the only thing we can do is to remove as much as possible at the same time as reducing the emissions. A good way to do this is 'terrapretifying' our soils. Reducing emissions is discussed everywhere, but few have realised the possibility to actually remove carbon from the atmosphere. Making charcoal from plants and adding it to soils will create a pathway to do that, since the charcoal will store in the soil for tentousands of years.Being a systems ecologist and former farmer is pehaps because I see this as a way out of the greatest problem mankind ever have faced. My homepage is Folke Günther on ecological design, thermodynamics of living systems, ecological engineering, nutrient recycling and oil depletion Quote
InfiniteNow Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 Hi Folke, Welcome to Hypography. I imagine you've already seen it, but much more is available at the link below: Terra Preta - Science Forums Enjoy. :cup: Quote
freeztar Posted June 2, 2008 Report Posted June 2, 2008 Welcome Folke! It's always great to have another ecologist around! :cup: I look forward to your posts! Quote
alexander Posted June 3, 2008 Report Posted June 3, 2008 Welcome to hypography, the only place you know, where the expression "working from the ground, up" is only the first 1/2 of the expression "working from the ground up, to work back down to the ground" Quote
