Flying Binghi Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 Hello all, I hail from the land of Oz. Background - poorly educated farm boy on a quest for knoweledge and learnin (Caint spell and hope you excuse the poor wordage) Very briefly, I own near a million trees/shrubs, eat meat, believe science researchers are the REAL heros of the world (not the movie stars), hate violent movies (except depictions of real events) and am near 97.35% certain that the AGW claims are nonsence. Some say a persons choice in movies says a lot about them, well if so, Favorite movie - Big Rocks and Long Props. Movie I found most disturbing - Schindlers List. Best comedy movie - An Inconvenient Truth. Quote
sanctus Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 WElcome. How are you 97.35% sure? Why not 98.201%? Quote
Thunderbird Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 If you're hero's are scientist why would you think that their climate predictions are a joke? :) sanctus 1 Quote
Flying Binghi Posted June 18, 2008 Author Report Posted June 18, 2008 Hello, sanctus and Thunderbird. looks like I jumped in the deep end here ;) How are you 97.35% sure? Why not 98.201% :) If you're hero's are scientist why would you think that their climate predictions are a joke Its not the 'real' scientists that amuse me... Quote
Thunderbird Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 Hello, sanctus and Thunderbird. looks like I jumped in the deep end here ;) ;) Its not the 'real' scientists that amuse me...You do not believe climatologist are real scientist. :) Scientific opinion on climate changeFrom Wikipedia, the free encyclopediaNational and international science academies and professional societies have assessed the current scientific opinion on climate change, in particular recent "/wiki/Global_warming". These assessments have largely followed or endorsed the position that "An increasing body of observations gives a collective picture of a warming world and other changes in the climate system... There is new and stronger evidence that most of the warming observed over the last 50 years is attributable to human activities." l "cite_note-IPCC_WG1-0"This article documents "/wiki/Scientific_opinion" as given by synthesis reports, scientific bodies of national or international standing, and surveys of opinion among climate scientists. It does not document the views of individual scientists, individual universities or laboratories, nor "/wiki/Self-selection" lists of individuals such as petitions Quote
Zythryn Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 Its not the 'real' scientists that amuse me... So any scientists that support a theory you don't like are not real?:) Quote
Flying Binghi Posted June 18, 2008 Author Report Posted June 18, 2008 All right, try this one - via the late Reid Bryson “All this argument is the temperature going up or not, it’s absurd, of course it’s going up. It has gone up since the early 1800s, before the Industrial Revolution, because we’re coming out of the Little Ice Age, not because we’re putting more carbon dioxide into the air.” Quote
Zythryn Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 At least that is a position that points to something as an alternate theory. However, why is it that we have seen a rate of increase more significantly in the last 30 years? It really all boils down to CO2. If you can refute the energy absorbtion patterns of CO2 you unravel the whole thing. If you can't then adding CO2 to the atmosphere will warm it. We are adding CO2 to the atmosphere and it is warming. Quote
Flying Binghi Posted June 18, 2008 Author Report Posted June 18, 2008 why is it that we have seen a rate of increase more significantly in the last 30 years? I think it may have a lot to do with the siteing of climate monitoring stations in the USA and butterflys :) ......and as this is my 'introduction' post thread, I'm not going to provide any references ;) Quote
Zythryn Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 DOH!! I don't want to take this off topic, so back on topic:Welcome to the board:)I look forward to your contribution to the forum and will save discussions about GW for other threads:) Quote
Thunderbird Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 I think it may have a lot to do with the siteing of climate monitoring stations in the USA and butterflys :) ......and as this is my 'introduction' post thread, I'm not going to provide any references ;) From the above post I doubt you are sincerely seeking answers, but I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt. Climatologist are well aware of the natural cycles warming and cooling trends. This trend of warming is not a natural one. It is man made and way to fast. This speed of change will have a disasters' effect on the environment. Nature can adapt, people can adapt, but when the change is sudden ecosystems crash. Quote
Flying Binghi Posted June 18, 2008 Author Report Posted June 18, 2008 ...I doubt you are sincerely seeking answers, but I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt errr, Thunderbird....... 97.35% I'm being fairly up front here :) ...............Have I passed muster yet? ....Can I go post in the relevant threads now? Sure, but I may have misenterpretred this,I think it may have a lot to do with the siteing of climate monitoring stations in the USA and butterflys What about butterflys ? :) Quote
freeztar Posted June 18, 2008 Report Posted June 18, 2008 I recommend moving this conversation to one of the relevant existing threads. This post is meant as an introduction, not as a full length discussion and debate. Btw, welcome Binghi! Quote
alexander Posted June 23, 2008 Report Posted June 23, 2008 I'll get this one back on topic though, Welcome to hypography, the only place you know where a climactic change curve can be represented with a function based on a multiple of pi as the main constant :P. Quote
Flying Binghi Posted June 24, 2008 Author Report Posted June 24, 2008 I seem to have the attention of all the moderators and I havnt started yet :D Quote
alexander Posted June 25, 2008 Report Posted June 25, 2008 you'll mostly see mods post here, because we tend to welcome new people, most other people just dont care enough.... we just want you to feel like we're watchin ya, you know, give that perception, make you believe like we are around here. That's because, like US gov-t we dont want you to actually know what happens in the back, we dont want you to know that we control you, modify your brain waves, solicit your thoughts, watch, oh no, we have your toaster reporting to us, how many toasts, of what bread, and what you ate them with. The world, hell, the universe bows down to our majestic powers of information bending, and who pays for all that..... oh wait, you are not supposed to know that. Quote
