greenkira Posted July 11, 2008 Report Posted July 11, 2008 Hi, I just joined up so I could throw a couple ideas onto the terra preta forum. I'm an American photographer and English teacher living in Berlin currently, unfortunately with no garden space or much of anything - I was working in Moscow for three years and then had to leave on short notice (most of the freelance language teachers in Moscow had to leave after they rewrote their visa rules). So now I'm in this incredibly green and liberal city and trying to figure out what to do here, since the job I moved here for got delayed until September and summer is a lousy time to find teaching jobs... well, lots of time on online forums right now! My degree was in History with a focus on the late Roman empire, but my father works in African agroforestry and parks preservation so I spent four years in Burkina Faso and Madagascar as a kid. For a while in my teens I was thinking about following his footsteps career-wise, but after watching him dig parasites out of his foot with a pocketknife I reconsidered. I'd like to get into working in low tech/ sustainable design but have no idea how one gets into that. I used to do a lot of woodworking - musical instrument building - and various reproduction medieval and ancient arts, but gave that up when I decided it was time to go traveling, so now it's just me and my camera. By the way, I'd love to work with any groups that need their environmental or social projects documented - I've been published in one of National Geographic's subtitle magazines (Historia), so I do how to use a camera. Anyway, there's my intro. Kira Hagenkirahagen.com Quote
