dhjp70 Posted July 20, 2008 Report Posted July 20, 2008 I'm an Engineer who has interest in other areas other than engineering. Religion, cosmology and evolution are a few areas which I amincllined to read about from an amateur's perspective Quote
modest Posted July 20, 2008 Report Posted July 20, 2008 Hello dhjp70, Welcome to hypography. My first year in college was toward the major of electrical engineering. I switched majors, but still think engineering is the noblest of scientific pursuits. As they say: "Engineering is the professional art of applying science to the optimum conversion of natural resources to the benefit of man." What kind of engineering do you practice? ~modest Quote
dhjp70 Posted July 20, 2008 Author Report Posted July 20, 2008 Hi Modest, Civil . I don't quite subscribe to a definition as lofty! Rather, Engineering is taking a principle and applying it to a practical situation. dhjp70 Quote
modest Posted July 20, 2008 Report Posted July 20, 2008 Hi Modest, Civil . Very nice :) You could always spot a civil engineering student on his way to class at K-State by the t-square they carried. One of my best friends is a civil engineer. I don't quite subscribe to a definition as lofty! Rather, Engineering is taking a principle and applying it to a practical situation. dhjp70 You are too modest. Those words were spoken by Ralph J. Smith who was a professor of electrical engineering at stanford. I have his book "Electronics: Circuits and Devices" and I love the way he talks about engineering. There are some examples on this page: Ralph J. Smith dies; professor emeritus of electrical engineering (2/97) Welcome again to Hypography, where there's no shortage of practical minds finding practical solutions to practical situations :hyper: ~modest Quote
