A moment for the late aussie icon 'the crocodile hunter' - Steve Erwin who went down doing what he loves.

Yes, a very sad piece of news indeed. I enjoyed a lot of his shows. If anyone ever loved their work, he must be the one.

Absolutely Jay-qu........one of my favorite wild life shows on the tube. I can't help but make the point that my wife and I had often speculated that he might come to such an end while making one of these documentaries...................Infy

A moment for the late aussie icon 'the crocodile hunter' - Steve Erwin who went down doing what he loves. He was struck in the chest by a sting ray earlier today while filming on the great barrier reef in Queensland, Australia. He leaves behind his wife Terry and 2 kids. My heart goes out to them in these times.

I just feel bad becuase he has a wife and two young kids. I always imagined what it would be like to have to explain the death of a family member to such a young child. ::shudders::

May his family be brought the utmost feelings of comfort during these hard times. :D

Crikey! He went out doing what he loved. I'm sure he would have wished for no other way to go... except, maybe an actual croc instead of a sting ray.

Discovery Channel is setting up a fund for wildlife protection in his name and will be airing his shows marathon style in tribute.

Steve was killed during a filming expedition for Animal Planet on the Great Barrier Reef. While we are still collecting specific details, it appears that this was a rare accident in which Steve swam over a stingray and was stung by its barb in his chest. A doctor on board Croc One, Steve's research vessel, was unable to resuscitate Steve, and by the time a rescue helicopter reached him, he had died.

"The world has lost a great wildlife icon, a passionate conservationist and one of the proudest dads on the planet," Stainton told reporters in Cairns. "He died doing what he loved best and left this world in a happy and peaceful state of mind. He would have said, 'Crocs Rule!'"
