vonellekv Posted July 28, 2008 Report Posted July 28, 2008 Hello Everyone, I was looking for some information when I came upon this site. I am not a scientist but have always been interested in science. I do not know how much I will use this site and I doubt that I will ever have anything to contribute -- except I have questions and I don't know where to look for the information I want. I was hoping someone here could point me in the right direction. The thing is --- where do I go to ask a question? About Me: I live with my husband in Northern IL. He's an engineer and I am an free-lance editor and ghost. I would mention my reasonable rates, but I am afraid the type of stuff members write will be over my head. Okay, I just looked through the 'Smiles' icons hoping to find and illustration of 'over-my-head' and I didn't. There might be one, but I got dizzy after looking at them for a few minutes and had to give up. Quote
modest Posted July 28, 2008 Report Posted July 28, 2008 Hello vonellekv, Welcome to Hypography. You can search the forums with the search option at the top of the page. If you're unable to find a thread that deals with your specific question then you can create a new thread in whatever forum it would belong (ie physics, chemistry, astronomy, philosophy, etc) Feel free to make yourself at home, we've got a lot of members who make science interesting and fun. I'm sure you'll fit right in  ~modest Quote
alexander Posted August 5, 2008 Report Posted August 5, 2008 The thing is --- where do I go to ask a question? That's one question i have answered a hundred times over.... here at scienceforums ofcourse :applause: Welcome to Hypography, the only place you know where one can find answers to all kinds of questions, even questions about questions, and if you can't find an answer, upon your request one will be posted :) Quote
vonellekv Posted August 6, 2008 Author Report Posted August 6, 2008 Thank you so very much for answering my post. I tried and tried to return to this page and I couldn't. I returned - I thought - to activate my account, but never could get anything but a blank page thereafter. So, I am very happy about the replies because that is how I got back here. My question was about 'artifacts' that keep popping up in my yard. Okay it is more like really old garbage. I find shards of glass and some pieces that are over 3 inches square. I have found chunks of ceramic pottery, 3 foot lengths of chain, nails, and bones (not human, I am certain). Nothing really interesting in itself, but I couldn't figure out how it just kept showing up. I would clean-up part of the garden and the next day there would be something just laying there. After years of trying to figure out what kind of critter was up to mischief I learned about underground landslides and that stuff gets pushed up to the surface. So my home was built (about 80 years ago) on some garbage. Or maybe there is a more mysterious explanation. But I still don't understand how the underground landslides occur so I am still looking for more information. Do I want to seek out geologists? Okay, I do, but that's because I have some interesting stones like green quartz - maybe? Well, anyway, I have gone on quite a bit about this. I was just so excited about getting replies that I couldn't contain myself. Quote
