LPenn Posted May 3, 2005 Report Posted May 3, 2005 I grew to 67 inches by age 16 (with 3 inches occurring in a 6-month period during age 13). I was rather surprised to find out I grew another inch when I was 20. Following that, I developed scoliosis, losing 4 inches over the next 20 years. :) Finally I decided to do something about my curve (which was beginning to exceed 60 degrees) and underwent spinal fusion from T4 to sacrum (about 16 vertebrae, I think). :) After a year of physical therapy and 2 further operations, I had -- happily -- regained 3 inches! :) Bet you did not think growth could be so "variable" (felt like an accordian for awhile!). Fortunately for me, it is! :( Quote
McGyver Posted May 4, 2005 Report Posted May 4, 2005 If one of your arms were x-rayed as a teen, an orthopaedic physician may accurately predict your eventual height. This is done in cases where endocrine or other growth disorders are suspected. On a less scientific basis, one can look at the other siblings, the age of onset of puberty, and any contraindicating factors. Both heavy weight lifting during the latent growth cycle and some prescription inhalers for Rx of asthma and sinusitis can delay growth. With weight lifting, the latent phase growth can be lost. Post d/c inhalers, normal growth usually resumes. Though height can continue to age 25, the average formula may be 95% of height reached at puberty plus 4 years. Then there are the exceptions! Quote

The sympathomimetics (e.g., albuterol) do not have this side effect, I believe. Quote

The sympathomimetics (e.g., albuterol) do not have this side effect, I believe.I'm not familiar with the specific meds reported (mid-1990s). The affect was related to dosage, frequency, and length of period used. Any prescribing physician should be familiar with the list. My son was taking one for inflammation of sinuses. I merely instructed him to take it only during the most problematic period of the year, and at a maintenance level. Quote
simmonds Posted June 13, 2005 Report Posted June 13, 2005 hehe, if u think ur tall, i think im a midget. im only 5'11 and im under the average for my school Quote
nostawk Posted July 14, 2005 Report Posted July 14, 2005 On the topic of becoming taller you should look into aromatase inhibitors. However at 18 I doubt there is much you can do. There is a lot of interesting info on pubmed about aromatase inhibitors increasing height. Quote

landro Posted October 30, 2005 Report Posted October 30, 2005 I have a question about some slightly different. So I just turned 21. Height isn't much of an issue as much as me looking really young for my age, I look maybe 15-16... What might be the issue here? I never really looked into what I could do, as in I never visited a doctor about it. Quote

RonCan66 Posted January 7, 2011 Report Posted January 7, 2011 As I know usually height growth stops after a certain age. Women usually stop growing after the age of 21 while for men it is 25. However, these calculations can be turned around through certain physical activities, exercises, right diet, and other things, which are important for human body’s growth. http://growingtallerstretches.com/ Quote
pgrmdave Posted October 9, 2015 Report Posted October 9, 2015 Just so you know, it's unlikely that vijay is going to see your post, given that he asked the question 10 years ago... Quote
fahrquad Posted December 23, 2015 Report Posted December 23, 2015 You are probably as tall as you will be. I am 5'8" and my dad is 5'6". My dad was average height for his generation and I am average for my generation. I have cousins on my maternal side who are 6'6"+, but not on the paternal side. All 6' or less. Quote
fahrquad Posted December 23, 2015 Report Posted December 23, 2015 P.S. I turned 55 last week, so I am not getting any taller. Quote
