buddyzen Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 ok guys i was talking with one of my friends about a parrallel universe because someone said that a micro black whole might spark a connexion to one and on the thread that was talking about LHC someone said that a parrallel universe might be like a dna strand now my theory is that it is exactly like a mirror, like everything is the same exaclty the same so if we actually do open micro blackholes that means that the parrallel universe would also and what would be the reaction of both opening in the same place on the pallalel universes but yet that is just my theory i would really love to know anyone elses theorys ^.^ Quote
freeztar Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 The idea of a parallel universe (or multiple universes linked), has no empirical evidence to support such a theory. Mathematical equations based on empirical evidence have suggested that multiple universes/dimensions exist. Unfortunately, we presently have no way of confirming or denying such claims. It's fun to speculate and imagine, but most of this stuff will be considered Scifi until it has empirical evidence to support it. This excerpt from the wiki on "String Theory" does a good job of describing the difficulties in scientific acceptance of the "fringe" string theories, imo. Eclogite Posted September 11, 2008 Report Posted September 11, 2008 I agree with freeztar, buddyzen. Parallel universes are neat things to speculate on, but we have no way at present of testing whether or not they exist - and science is all about testing our ideas. Indeed, if we can't test the idea and potentially prove it wrong, then it is generally agreed that it isn't science. It can still be fun though. Some physicists have suggested that the LHC, by creating a wormhole, could allow time travellers from the future to return to this time. Apparently the mathematics makes sense, but whether it would be practical is quite another matter. If it is, then hotel beds may be in short supply in Geneva soon! Quote
