TED: Ideas worth spreading

TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from those three worlds. Since then its scope has become ever broader.

That's basically it. Really smart people with new and fascinating ideas give quick lectures at a conference. Some big names, and some cool science. Here are a few cool videos:

Robert Full on engineering and evolution | Video on TED.com

Joshua Klein on the intelligence of crows | Video on TED.com

E.O. Wilson on saving life on Earth | Video on TED.com

Dan Dennett on dangerous memes | Video on TED.com

Steven Pinker on language and thought | Video on TED.com

Richard Dawkins on our "queer" universe | Video on TED.com

Having discovered TED only a few days ago, I so far like what I’ve seen. :)

My main complaint is that TED could stand for “Transcripts Excluded by Design”. :( More often than not, I prefer reading ideas to watching streaming videos of them, and humbly submit that any idea worth spreading is worth transcribing into text.
