SamSpeedo Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 Anybody here believe the war in Afghanistan is justified? See very few posts supporting it, why all the silence? Quote
alexander Posted January 16, 2010 Report Posted January 16, 2010 That depends your definition of what justified is, and which part of the war you are justifying... Can you really justify killing people? What is "just"? Who benefits from that war, why do soldiers have to put their lives on the line, who is the winner if the war is won, why do we have to put our tax dollars into that affair, and which perspectives were considered in the "justification" process... I don't think it's at all justified, i think it was a way to take public's attention from some other problem... Quote
Michaelangelica Posted January 19, 2010 Report Posted January 19, 2010 Anybody here believe the war in Afghanistan is justified? See very few posts supporting it, why all the silence? Possibly more so that the present illegal Iraq war.Whether or not it WAS justified the question is how do we get out of it now safely for eveyone concerned. To that end I think Barack would have been better sending 30,000 more teachers, gardeners, musicians, doctors, horticulturalists, builders, nurses, micro-bankers, engineers than 30,000 more troops. If you get a chance have a look at thishttp://www.abc.net.au/atthemovies/txt/s1358956.htmLandmines - A Love StorySynopsis Duration: 1x55' or 1x75' Shah and Habiba are "flowers from the same garden" - both victims of the many land mines left behind in Afghanistan. While Shah tries to find work as a cobbler, Habiba is reduced to begging for charity on the streets of Kabul to feed their three children. Following Habiba's progress is the unflinching camera of award-winning filmmaker, Dennis O'Rourke. From the war-ravaged streets to the classrooms where the lesson is how to identify land mines and cluster bombs, this is a remarkable personal story of a mother's love in the face of one of the world's most dangerous and indiscriminate weapons.A few people who could make artificial limbs would not go astray either. :naughty: Quote
