sneha Posted November 3, 2008 Report Posted November 3, 2008 Please explain:what is a covalent bond? Quote
Pyrotex Posted November 3, 2008 Report Posted November 3, 2008 There are two types of molecular bonds: ionic and covalent. Ionic bonds are where an electron leaves one atom and attaches to another; the first atom becomes positively charged and the second one negatively charged. Opposite charges attract, so the two ions get cozy with one another, forming a molecule. Covalent bonds are where an electron, attached to one atom in a specified "orbital" is shared out and fills a specified orbital in another atom, at the same time. The two atoms are tied together, not by charge, but because the same electron is now stuck in two orbitals around two atoms. Look up all bold words in Wikipedia.com for further help. Quote
freeztar Posted November 6, 2008 Report Posted November 6, 2008 Covalent bonds are simply when two or more electrons share an atom (or more) in such a way that it enables valence stability. The covalent bond is not a force. Covalent bond - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Quote
