Buffy Posted November 5, 2008 Author Report Posted November 5, 2008 Ooooof: MSNBC and ABC are both calling Pennsylvania for Obama. This was a must-win state for McCain and that's why he spent 80% of his time there in the last 2 weeks.... More Republican Vote suppression follies are failing:The removal of two Republican election workers from a Warren Township polling site - for using improper methods to challenge voters' rights to cast a ballot - has prompted local Republican Party leaders to issue a statement of regret. The two officials - an official challenger and a clerk - were removed by unanimous vote of the Marion County Election Board. The officials were reportedly challenging voters with information obtained through party affiliation reports, which is not one of the accepted challenges such as a person's address, age or lack of ID. "We were disappointed to hear of the incident regarding these two workers. The Marion County Republican Party was not aware of these alleged activities, nor did the Party instruct any worker to engage in such behavior," Marion County Republican Party Chairman Tom John said in a statement issued at 2 p.m. (h/t TalkingPointsMemo.com) The people who cast the votes do not decide an election, the people who count the votes do, :evil:Buffy
modest Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 Calling Pennsylvania seems odd. No votes have been counted and exit polls look inconclusive.
Buffy Posted November 5, 2008 Author Report Posted November 5, 2008 First huge upset of the evening: Democrat Kay Hagen beats incumbent Liddy Dole in North Carolina Senate race according to NBC. Dole (wife of former presidential candidate Bob Dole who lost to Bill Clinton), plastered the airwaves with ads calling Hagen "godless": YouTube - Elizabeth Dole TV Ad - Promises http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuS342L22QI After this ad started running, Dole's poll numbers started to dive... This is probably the election where the dictum "negative political ads work" hit the wall.... An election is coming. Universal peace is declared and the foxes have sincere interest in prolonging the lives of the poultry, :evil:Buffy
freeztar Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 Calling Pennsylvania seems odd. No votes have been counted and exit polls look inconclusive. It just showed up on the CNN map.
Buffy Posted November 5, 2008 Author Report Posted November 5, 2008 Calling Pennsylvania seems odd. No votes have been counted and exit polls look inconclusive. :evil:A lot of people are pointing out that the networks are holding back on predictions more than in previous years because they've been so badly burned. As a result, they may not even be publishing what they're making their calls on: Karl Rove earlier showed what a wonk he is by rattling off precinct names from memory and saying why they were key indicators of the overall result he was predicting in Florida...sometimes the writing is on the wall well before the numbers are counted.... Prediction is very difficult, especially about the future, :)Buffy
freeztar Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 ABC is currently talking about voting integrity in FL... Seems they had no problems this time around.
modest Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 ...As a result, they may not even be publishing what they're making their calls on That's exactly what it was. Partial returns from a precinct weren't (aren't) published. CNN calls: Rhode Island, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and New York for Obama, and Wyoming and North Dakota for McCain
Buffy Posted November 5, 2008 Author Report Posted November 5, 2008 ABC is currently talking about voting integrity in FL... Seems they had no problems this time around. :)Wull that's because Katherine Harris isn't Florida's Secretary of State any more! A thing worth having is a thing worth cheating for, :evil:Buffy
Buffy Posted November 5, 2008 Author Report Posted November 5, 2008 Awwww, Freezy, you didn't try hard enough! CNN calls Georgia for McCain.... Hope is tomorrow's veneer over today's disappointment, :evil:Buffy
modest Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 Shep Smith just reminded us that McCain's campaign manager Rick Davis said yesterday that McCain must win 5 of these 6 states: Indiana, Virginia, Ohio, Florida, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. Davis further said that if McCain looses Pennsylvania () then he'll need "Nevada, Iowa, and Colorado and all the rest of the GOP safe seats later in the evening" (in addition to the 5 above) http://www.ohio.com/news/top_stories/33760099.html
freeztar Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 Awwww, Freezy, you didn't try hard enough! CNN calls Georgia for McCain.... You mean Barr didn't win?!
Buffy Posted November 5, 2008 Author Report Posted November 5, 2008 Modest is on the right track: Faux Noise is the channel to watch tonight. Brit Hume and Karl Rove are now contemplating possible win scenarios for McCain which include winning California.... Or maybe Washington...lesseee, did Turtle and Racoon BOTH vote for McCain? Then its possible! Absurdity, n.: A statement or belief manifestly inconsistent with one's own opinion, :phones:Buffy
modest Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 Yeah, Ohio just went to Obama. This gives him the election according to Rick Davis' thinking yesterday. If I'm not mistaken all Obama needs now is to hold on to the remaining Kerry states. Wow!
Buffy Posted November 5, 2008 Author Report Posted November 5, 2008 You mean Barr didn't win?! :phones:I think he's getting more votes in Florida than Nader! Thoughts tending to ambition, they do plot unlikely wonders, :rolleyes:Buffy
modest Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 Scarborough just said there's no conceivable victory for McCain from here and also mentioned the possible exception of McCain winning California .
freeztar Posted November 5, 2008 Report Posted November 5, 2008 Yeah, it's looking pretty good for Obama. He's projected for NM.
