Pyrotex Posted November 9, 2008 Report Posted November 9, 2008 [sigh] we got a memo around the office this week that a new monitoring program has been installed at NASA, and that "big brother" will be taking a more active interest in our internet sojourns. The new rules forbid not just sites with questionable or offensive content, but ANY site that is not directly work related. So, my posts will (mostly) come from home now. Only the trouble is, I don't know what to post anymore. None of the science threads seem to interest me any more. I find that I'm a bit more bored than usual these days. Either that, or I'm suffering from "hypoboredomosity", which is that ennui you get when you realize that you've spent waaaay too much time on Hypography for the last few months, and you've kinda burned out. I hope this condition is temporary. So, I may be scarce these days, but I'm not leaving. I just gotta go out there somewhere and find something I feel passionate about. Hopefully it will be work related. Toodles. Quote

It's those IT guys who are looking for something to blame for the inability to keep the computers going, the Internet is always a good place to lay the blame  Quote

Essay Posted November 10, 2008 Report Posted November 10, 2008 Pyro! This is hard news to hear.... Could you submit a proposal to study the AI characteristics (and future potential) of certain parts of the Web; say, for instance, certain science forums?=== "....joys of the physical and social sciences involved in CO2 sequestration within the biogeosphere will return as a focus soon enough."You don't happen to work in a geoengineering/terraforming area, eh?...or how about remote sensing! We need a way to detect sequestered Carbon in the soil! ...but despite the fascinating technicalities of soil sequestration....:naughty: I'm actually kinda serious about the NASA/AI proposal....I'm thinking that there is the potential for a new capability to emerege out of these science fora/"subject blog" phenoms. ...each person is like one neuron (with all it's connections and history); but the trick is to get them firing in a more coordinated or synchronized manner. I like the Topic of the Week idea; that seems like it has some potential right there, but it needs legs, focus, "weeding," cross-referencing, concentration.... ...maybe a forum about forums... a superforum, like the superego.... Thanks, seeya later.... ~ ;) Quote

It is at that time that the nomadic warrior roams. The fruit will be good again, when it is ripe. :eek2: Quote
Qfwfq Posted November 11, 2008 Report Posted November 11, 2008 The new rules forbid not just sites with questionable or offensive content, but ANY site that is not directly work related.I've sometimes had to severely limit my posting. Gets so addictive sometimes that ya can't remain within reasonable limits that can be called "taking a break"! But to have the proxy cutting you off completely like that is a right PITA and prevents one from doing things without having to take a lengthier leave. Quote
