charles brough Posted November 9, 2008 Report Posted November 9, 2008 As we all know, political cartoonists and the whole media system begin looking for ways to humiliate the president no matter who he is. This is because there is always a large minority that hates him, no matter how much the others admire him. So, his picture in the political cartoons gets worse and worse as the years go by. Something he does that can be criticized if distorted begins to acquire a label. If the word, "liberal" now has the connotation "radical" used to have, then even a Democratic Administration is influenced by a subtle, gradual, more conservative shift in public opinion. The point of this is that this time we have a black president. When the enthusiasm dies down and Republican critics have had time to undermine his standing a little, the outcome could be far different than in other times. This time, it would seem to many if not most black people that the attacks were aimed at them and their race---all of it only hidden behind superficially political issues. This could lead to worse race-relations than we have now. Critics there will be because the new president will necessarily make new enemies and plenty of them if he tries to carry out his anti-lobbying and tax-the-rich policies. Of course, this is a highly sensitive subject, but this is a science forum and bringing up potential problems for serious consideration could be of value. Quote
