Pyrotex Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 Sridharanr,As a classical & relativistic physicist, I have no idea what DrQuantum means. :( Actually, I do. And he and a previous poster are correct: Those of us who have studied the sciences for years know perfectly well that the Human species does not have ALL the answers and never will. There will ALWAYS be more mysteries to tackle. But nearly all of what we already know is pretty solid and based on hard data and evidence. Sometimes, what we know doesn't (at first glance) make common sense. This is usually a failing of "common sense". Hi there, DrQuantum. Quote
Pluto Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 G'day from the land of ozzzzzz It looks like sridharanr is enthusiastic about cosmology but lacks the info. I would say do a bit more reading on scientific papers get a bit more understanding. You will find that people here will help you discuss any issues based on science. pamela 1 Quote
DrQuantum Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 Pluto, Buffy, Eclogite, and Reason - Thanks for your insightful postings.Pyrotex - Thanks for your welcome and also your imaginative reply to Sridharanr. I look forward to other exchanges relating to modern physics.Pamela - I assume you are a female - not only because of your name, but also because of your insight into Sridharanr's original posting. After I read your comments and your idea that it was poetry, I re-read it and I agree. In fact, it is not at all bad as poetry. I guess I was stuck in the typical male mode of interpreting things from "inside the box". In fact, a friend sent me a video clip of a stand-up comic doing a routine where he compares male and female brains. He says that men's brains are made up of a lot of little boxes, each with its own specified categories of contents - including one that he calls a "man's favorite box" that contains nothing. On the other hand, he says that women's brains are like a ball of wires, all cross-connected and continually buzzing with energy. I guess that is why you were able to see Sridharanr's post as poetry even though it is in the "Modern Cosmology" section. Thanks for helping me to see "outside the box". Essay 1 Quote
Pluto Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 G'day from the land of ozzzzz Thank God I'm a male,,,,,,,,,,,,I need that box to be half empty with nothing. Quote
sridharanr Posted November 17, 2008 Author Report Posted November 17, 2008 Pyro's sarchasm emanates from the fact that your entire longwinded OP says merely one simple thing - We don't have all the answers to the universe. This is no shocking revelation, even for the most advanced scientific mind. So what's your point, and what does such a statement have to do with Modern Cosmology?G'day ReasonYou have not understood what I said. I never said we don’t have all the answers to the universe - I said once in a while we do have great minds like Newton and Einstein who have radically changed our thinking of Cosmos. In our present day we see there is no one on whose theories we can confidently build on our modern cosmology. You can not find mathematical proofs to modern concepts like Inflation, Dark Energy, Dark Matter, Entanglement etc like Newton and Einstein established for gravity in their time. Many of the concepts in modern cosmology still remain as hypotheses, for want of great thinkers. Some diehards don’t accept this - they still think that we are advanced - only to find that most of the scientific works are strewn with wild imaginations and hypotheses. Some say ‘there are so many modern scientists out there working their butts off and producing fantastic work’ - please ask them name any one of them to the equals of a Kepler, Bohr, Darwin, Faraday, Fermi, Newton or Einstein – though I consider Hawking belonging to Einstein’s era. Mr.Reason you will agree this is no simple reasoning – stupid sarcasm means either one has not understood what I posted or they belong to empty vessels and not to the scientific discussions. Some also digress and stupidly bring in male female paradigm when all one needs here is scientific inquiry - I would say even some ladies knowledge surpass some of the stupid male morons (of course not those with half empty with nothing in it!), when it comes to understanding posts! I now invite Pluto, Pyrotex and Dr.Quantum to see the above even now if they haven’t understood what I wrote. -sridharanr Quote
pamela Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 Now Sridharanr, although not invited this time, I will feel free to express my views. First of all, you are being very unkind to people here whom I have great respect for. I am unsure of your profession in life, but you are criticizing two physicists, whose grasp of these concepts, laws and theories are beyond what most of us are able to comprehend. If your purpose is to open the eyes and minds to other possibilties and theories, then you are wasting your time. Our minds are already open and thinking, it is our nature to ask and seek knowledge and refute those things that cannot be substantiated with proof.I applaud your effort at seeking out the various unknowns and hope that in time you will gain the understanding that you are looking for. But as the voice of Reason has stated, we don't have all the answers and you are not telling us anything new. I appreciated Dr Quantums comments and enjoyed the way he has pulled us all together in a collective consciousness that is an integral part of our universe and the whole picture. I sincerely hope that you will open your mind to this.In stepping outside of the box, one realizes that there are no sharp corners;it is all curved;) Quote

maddog Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 I have been thinking a new way of unfolding the mysteries of our cosmos! ....As another post -- "longwinded" ... is right. Your first post wasn't really aquestion. If what you attempted as a series of statements -- as everybodyhas shown you - that wasn't clear at all ! Please don't try to clarify any more. I don't think I could take much more. Hat's off to Pyro in his parody. BTW Dark Matter, Dark Energy may be jargon to you. These are definable terms that though somewhat esoteric are not beyondsomeones grasp with a modest education. Dark Matter is considered an as yet undefinable class of matter that oneproperty -- weakly interacting with other matter. Depending on your variant of theories (whether you subscribe to):Examples of WIMPs, Axions, LSP (lighest Supersymmetric Particle), Magnetic Monopole, etc Dark Energy - yeah a little more radical the missing stuff - akin to Einstein's"Greatest Blunder" [Omega-0] or as evidenced by WMAP that material whichseems to accelerating the universe outward. I am sorry, I just couldn't finish the first post of this thread. US Tax Code is better to read (an probably clearer). I think I have said enough - before I am become another version of a windbag. maddog Quote
REASON Posted November 18, 2008 Report Posted November 18, 2008 When I squint, I am able to see more clearly and clearly do I see your point.Your piece of poetry should have been placed in a Literature Forum as opposed to Astronomy and Cosmology. I went back and read the OP again and I agree, it does read like poetry. Good call, Pam Quote

Once I thought just like you, but! now the more I read the more I find how little I know and the great works that people are making. Many of the concepts in modern cosmology still remain as hypotheses, for want of great thinkers. This maybe so, But! cosmology has come along way in the last 10 years in leaps and light years. Our tools need to be advanced to give better observational data and so on. Hey! thats life. If you want to read any subject just let me know. I can drop you a load of scientific links. Quote
