Abbott Posted November 27, 2008 Report Posted November 27, 2008 Hi everyone, most of us have heard about UFO’s and all the stuff about the reports on them. There have been research on them and many things said and done, but it is still not clear if they really do exist or not. What do you people say on this? Quote
Lancelot Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 This is an all time discussion. I just wonder that this may go on for a long time, as you said, there are many researches been undertaken to discover the truth about them but many have been without any verified results. Some do believe that the results have not been fully disclosed and yet there have been some interesting findings about them. enorbet2 Posted May 19, 2009 Report Posted May 19, 2009 Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof but here's an application of the "grain of salt" KeepItSimpleStupid method. Consider how worthwhile it is before doing any math problem to first estimate what the answer should be. This really helps avoid problems like misplaced decimals, transposed numbers, substitutions, typos, etc etc since at least you have an idea of the range window in which the answer should fall. When discussing UFOs (at least the common extraterrestrial sort) many crackpots and well-intentioned folks as well can be very convincing at first glance. Considering that even given our wildest imaginations or avant garde sci fi writers plot mechanisms it is impossible to imagine that space travel is cheap, even to nearby planets. We don't even remotely have a frame of reference to make the leap in real comprehension of the orders of magnitude of difference to interstellar distances even though we glibly spout the numbers. The difficulty and cost goes up so far so fast that one should probably ask what would possibly be sufficient motivation to make that leap without knowing in advance the expense is even remotely justifiable and just how old, wealthy, advanced such a civilization must be. It's good to keep such a perspective when wild claims get made assuming we are so interesting or valuable to such a civilization. Quote
