theblackalchemist Posted November 28, 2008 Report Posted November 28, 2008 If researchers in Europe are successful, we will soon be seeing robots capable of developing and displaying emotions as they interact with humans. Dr Lola Canamero, of the University of Hertfordshire’s School of Computer Science in the UK, is co-ordinating a project to develop robots that are capable of growing emotionally, responding to humans and of expressing their own emotional states as they interact with people. The project - named Feelix Growing, which stands for ‘Feel, Interact, eXpress’ - aims to develop autonomous robots that will be capable of interacting with humans in everyday environments. The automatons, Canamero says, will learn and develop emotionally, socially and cognitively in accordance with the needs and personalities of the individuals with which they associate. “The aim is to develop robots that grow up and adapt to humans in everyday environments,” she said. “If robots are to be integrated in humans’ everyday lives as companions or carers, they can’t be just taken off the shelf and put into a real-life setting,” she opined. “They need to live and grow while interacting with humans, to adapt to their environment.” Mumbai Mirror - The future is Nao..., Tech - TechTalk,Mumbai Mirror Quote
