Roadam Posted December 23, 2008 Report Posted December 23, 2008 Anyone ever tried making char with microwave oven? It sounds possible as at least wood has some water content which the microwaves would heat up. At some time I also did found out that there is a firm on New Zealand that makes char with industrial microwave ovens.Carbonscape Quote

Roadam Posted December 24, 2008 Author Report Posted December 24, 2008 Heh, it turns out its the same firm I had put the link of. Seems that microwaves are quite good at quick drying wood. But I am actually considering buying a used microwave for a few quid and test it out. Quote
Nitack Posted December 24, 2008 Report Posted December 24, 2008 I saw the microwave info, but got a little worried when I thought of the flammable gasses released. If they ignited inside the microwave that could be very bad. Even worse, if your microwave was relatively air tight and the fumes built up, you could have a nasty explosion when you opened the door.
