theblackalchemist Posted January 25, 2009 Report Posted January 25, 2009 How many languages ( of the computer kind) have you gained knowledge of by your-self without any coaching or similar sort, by hit and trial or by the manual kind? vote the no and post the languages here :) oh and typesetting systems are allowed an example is [math]\text{LATEX}[/math] which is used here in HypoG.bno classes allowed though :naughty: Use of [math]\text{LATEX}[/math] here does not count :) THXTBA Quote

Mercedes Benzene Posted January 25, 2009 Report Posted January 25, 2009 One. The only thing I've taught myself was TEX. I learned Java, HTML, and C++ in high school comp classes though. A Note On: Having no time to teach yourself languages at home.MB Quote
Tormod Posted January 25, 2009 Report Posted January 25, 2009 The poll is slightly difficult if the requirement is that it needs compilation...not all program languages use compilers, markup languages in particlar. Editing in Notepad or similar program is also a limitation...I remember learning Z80 assembly on my ZX Spectrum in 1984 and there was no concept of anything but an input program and the use of BASIC to execute it. :eek_big: My list is short... Programming:BASICZ80 assembly code8080 assembly codePascal Web coding:ColdFusionHTML/CSS/XMLPHP(Some ASP) What about Actionscript...? Quote
sanctus Posted January 26, 2009 Report Posted January 26, 2009 Well interpreting the definition myself I consider a computer language also coding in Maple so my list is: - Maple- Matlab- Mathematica (learning it now)- C++- Fortran- Latex- xml (only really basics)- sm (=supermongo a plotting language, like gnuplot)- idl Quote
