Queso Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 Japanese music seems to do the trick for me, I involuntary yeild to meditation when that stuff comes on. I know nothing more than just shutting everything else out and focusing on my mind and body. Quote
OpenMind5 Posted March 1, 2005 Author Report Posted March 1, 2005 I have begun the research and understand meditaion better, but i would like to know more. This is one of those random things that I want to strat doing to reduce some stress. If there are ideas, or even methods, i would love to hear them. Op5 Quote
Thomas Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 Yes , I have heard of meditation doing some interesting things to the body, escpecially in those eastern cultures with the buddist monks and things like that. I personally do not meditate, I spend time in prayer for all my stresses to go away, and it works, I think that its better than meditation. Quote
Turtle Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 ___I recently heard it said that prayer is talking to god & meditation is listening to god. My math research is one of my meditations & somewhere here at Hypography is a thread called "Spinning Button on a String" which is another method I use to meditate.___All the crystals, & mantras, & yantras, & beads, etc have the same goal of drawing the concentration to a focus. Any of these work fine & in truth no 'thing' is required at all. If you think you are meditating you probably are; if you think you aren't meditating. you probably are. Quote
maddog Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 Personally, I look at prayer and meditation as the same thing. I don't mean to offendanyone. It is just that if practice you will often find yourself in altered state (Alpha).Zen Buddhism likens it to the stilling of the waters of your mind. You do this by thinkingof nothing. I also find some music (right kind) works as well. Zen way takes years tomaster (I haven't gotten it yet). I recommend stuff from Steven Halpern, though youcould get anything from New Age section. Hope this helps. Maddog Quote
Tormod Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 I did use meditation techniques when preparing for my exam recitals when I was a guitar student. It is an astonishingly simple thing to do, although I think a lot of people tend to overrate it (as in, it might change your life but most likely it will simply let you relax a bit). What it does is to let you relax and get better in touch with your inner thoughts. At least for me, it made me stronger and more prepared for dealing with my stage fright (my recitals went really well). I combined the meditation with techniques for "natural" guitar playing, in which you study how to use less force to play and use stream-of-consciousness techniques to improve the flow of the playing. I even had a religious-like experience (as some would call it) one day thanks to the calm and quiet I felt in this period - just an instant of huge bliss after which I was simply *happy* for weeks. Sadly I find myself unable to pick up the meditation again after all these years, probably due to the stresses of family life... Quote
pgrmdave Posted March 1, 2005 Report Posted March 1, 2005 The closest I've come to meditation it listening to Pink Floyd's Dark Side of The Moon. It just makes me relax. Quote
