JohnH Posted February 2, 2009 Report Posted February 2, 2009 Hello, My (user) name is "JohnH", and I just signed up for Hypography this afternoon. I am a researcher in biology who has been out of the field for some time (unfortunately I'm a little rusty and scrambling to catch up with the literature). My background is, let's say, in Botany, and I'm currently pursuing some projects in cell-wall chemical compositions. I am working with a fairly large group of good researchers on a project that will explore the potential use of agricultural residues (upper Midwest of the U.S.) in production of biofuels. We will be working off of both the sugar and the thermochemical platforms. We hope to develop some means of identifying chemical compounds in biomass by using NIR spectroscopy. I've a fairly good background in chemical compositions of plant cell walls, but am pretty new to NIR spectroscopy. One possible area that we, as a group, will be pursing is the analysis of biochars. I learned of this bulletin board from a link on Wikipedia's "Biochar" page. I hope I might "listen-in" and participate in discussions on biochar, biofuels production, NIRS, harvesting and processing of agricultural residues, and many other topics. Thanks,JohnH Flying Binghi 1 Quote

Michaelangelica Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 Muslim cleric decries biofuels as sinful | Cleantech Group Well, if most of your $upport was coming from Saudi Arabia, you would make it a sin wouldn't you? check out "What plants might be used just for biofuel " thread. That may be of interest. Quote
