klungo76 Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 My ivy plant has recently gotten a coat of fine, fluffy-looking, white mold in the place where the soil is at its highest point (AKA rim of pot). I just wanted to know how to get rid of it, the plant has started to smell and I only water it once a week, any suggestions? Is it harmful? Quote
pamela Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 A good idea would be to carefully remove the soil where the mold has grown. Take the ivy outside and remove, keep it away from your face as you have been sick Klungo. Some molds can be dangerous, but unless you have alot of plants with this problem, you are probably not in danger. I trust you are on the mend? If you have a plastic pot, you might want to switch to terra cota. Mold thrives on moisture and your current pot may not be allowing for enough drainage. Should you find moldy roots, trim those parts away to save the rest of the plant. Have you checked the leaves for any signs of decay? It might only be the soil that has the odor and not necessarily the plant itself.Hopefully, this should work and your ivy should be okay. Quote
klungo76 Posted February 20, 2009 Author Report Posted February 20, 2009 Thank you so much! I'll try to scoop out the mold tomorrow and see if it makes a difference in smell, etc.I do have a terra cotta pot so it is hopefully a positive characterristic and I will see how it goes. Quote
