I have a cold right now. It's not particularly bad, but it's in the chest congestion/coughing stage.

One thing that I've noticed whenever I get colds is that I start to cough a lot in the evenings. I'll be fine all day and then all of a sudden, night rolls around and the coughing is practically uncontrollable... just as I'm getting ready for bed. It can't just be a coincidence, because this is something I've noticed every single time I have had a cold.

Anyone else experience the same thing? Anyone know why this happens?

A couple of things I imagine, can trigger this. The cooler evening air and the accumulated dust/debris that you have inhaled all day. The coughing gets worse when you lay down as well. Your body by the end of the day is exhausted when you are ill and it may be struggling to expel the mucus. Take a steamy shower that should help loosen up the congestion. if you have some mentholatum put a little under your nose and on your chest. Cough medicines are useless, but a sucking on a cool cough drop can help:)

I've never noticed that myself. What happens to me is that whatever illness I have is exacerbated at night. I think this is because the body's defenses naturally lower at night. Circadian rhythm.
