Qdogsman Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 I am a relatively old IBM retiree. I spent my career working with the then-big computers, starting with the IBM 1620. The first computer I owned was a 4K Apple II. My interests include my family (happily married with a bunch of kids and grandkids), my dog, our cats, my main hobby (building a log home in the mountains by myself), and ideas that have drawn me to this forum. I have a master's degree in Math and I have some mathematical ideas I would like to bounce off of you. I am also interested in Physics and Cosmology but only as a layman. I have some ideas there I would like to share as well. We have an enegertic dog named Quincy whom we love. We affectionately call him Qdog. Since Qdog is my dog, I guess that makes me, Qdogsman Quote

Qdogsman Posted March 1, 2009 Author Report Posted March 1, 2009 Thanks, Pamela. I look forward to posting. I just tried posting in the Philosophy of Science forum and my post was rejected. It might have been too soon since I signed up. I'll try again. Qdogsman Quote
Michaelangelica Posted March 1, 2009 Report Posted March 1, 2009 Welcome Qdogsman(A pity one can't use your name in scrabble it could be very handy).I still have my Mac Plus.( My $4.95 USB stick has bigger storage!)I am leaving it to my grandchildren to sell, on the evolutionary successor, to eBay There is a local Computer History Club here. They have some amazing stuff, including the first computer used in Australia.Unfortunately money and storage space is a big problem. Also, unfortunately, the guys who know how to run, repair and work 'very-old' computers keep selfishly and inconveniently, dying. The new wizz-kids are just interested in the latest and greatest- not learning "ancient history".I am not a computer geek but when I head of the Club's plight (every few years they have to move everthing to some other cheap half-condemned warehouse- all volunteers.) I wished I was Bill Gates and could toss them a $100mil or two. Welcome to Hypography Quote
