Stan Hirson Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 I've been a documentary film maker on and off for many years, having switched careers a few times but have now combined a few of them to make documentary videos on the internet on my own websites. I had just begun researching biochar and terra preta as subjects for a new site that I'm starting, * and that's how I found Hypography. My plan is to lurk for a while and just see what's going on. I live in a very rural area in Upstate New York on a small farm where we have Icelandic horses for our riding pleasure and as pets, really. I use my full name rather than a handle as a matter of principle, but you can call me Stan, of course. Quote
freeztar Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 Hello Stan, welcome to Hypography. Please review the site rules. We love having discussions about biochar and terra preta, but we do not allow uninvited advertising, especially from first posts! If you are genuinely interested in discussions here, then jump on in, just note that you are not free to "spam" the site. Thanks. :hihi: Quote

The best way to lurk is to "subscribe" to the threads that really interest you. Then (if you have set up you preferences properly on "notifications") you will get an email when anyone posts to the thread. With TP you can subscribe to the whole sub-forum if you like (pull down menu in "forum tools") I hope I am not teaching you to suck eggs , but it took me while to find my way around. A film on TP would be great. It has been a long time since the BBC one and a lot is happening everywhere now. To be honest I am a bit "over it" as we have been talking about it for so long here before anyone became aware of itIt is still our best hope to slow global warming.IMHO Welcome to Hypography:) Quote
Stan Hirson Posted March 5, 2009 Author Report Posted March 5, 2009 Hi Michaelangelica, Thanks for the welcome! I will take your advice and set my notifications. I use my full name because I am on some sites where there is a lot of trash talk. YouTube, for example. I have found that when handles are discouraged, or at least easily decoded, there is more respect. So, I decided a while ago to set an example. It is not for self-promotion although I fear that my identification was initially misunderstood as self-promotion and spamming on this list and was edited out. I am just starting a website (which, I gather, I must not mention) that will have videos on TP, biochar production, "carbon farming", etc., that will illustrate what people are actually doing with these subjects and, to some extent, to profile some of the research efforts on video. I prefer doing this on the internet rather than on a film because the videos are available all over the world, free, and easily viewed. It's also cheaper and I have more control over the production and content. I am still getting a feel for the subjects. I hope you are no too "talked out"! Thanks for your warm welcome. Quote

LOL. Thanks for the list offer, but I think I have already culled them. After I've made the required 10 posts, I'll send you a link for a very funny cartoon about protocol. If I can remember....
