Moontanman Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 'Undesirable' Evolution Can Be Reversed In Fish, By Letting The Big Ones GoScienceDaily (Mar. 4, 2009) — "Undesirable" evolution in fish – which makes their bodies grow smaller and fishery catches dwindle -- can actually be reversed in a few decades' time by changing our "take-the-biggest-fish" approach to commercial fishing, according to groundbreaking new research published by Stony Brook University scientists. Michaelangelica Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 I just had a difference of opinion with someone (freeztar?) about whether evolution can be reversed. I hope he reads this. I also posted an article about NOT catching big fish in the "So long and Thanks for All The Fish" threadIt seems that with MIGRATING fish it is the big guys who know where to go, and they teach the small ones ( Yes I know, in "schools"-- just go to the back of the room and take another ADHD pill).Take the big ones out of the picture and the little ones starve as they don't know when and where to go to find seasonally available food. So much to learn so little time. PSReason #3 for not eating big fish (from a link on your posted page)"Put simply, a fish population will produce more young -- and therefore sustain more fishing -- if it is made up of big, old fish."Want Sustainable Fishing?
