alexander Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 Exactly that, what are your feelings on the state of current biometric technologies? Lets talk about fingerprint readers, new vein signature readers, iris readers, facial recognition.... My thoughts are such, as all such technology is still in its infancy, there are many problems with most commonly-available technology, and while some creates more false-positives then others, some are less plausible and by that useable in the real world.... Fingerprint readers are not secure, even with sweat pattern recognition software, it is vulnerable to 10% (though from 80% standard) of false positives (well fooling the device). Combined with the fact that currently most of the data is not secured between the device and image-processing center, this is much too unreliable at its current state. Vein Signature readers are not yet publically available, though they hold a promise, IMHO Iris readers, while very accurate and hard to fool, are far too bulky and hard to operate for the real world, though there are applications for them, they are nowhere near useable for most even corporate world Facial recognition is the easiest to fool of the bunch, while it needs little technology to work and may be a viable way to screen, its not a technology that should be trusted yet...
