1. A bore drilling near Kingston on Thames England brought up some earth from 360 feet. Sealed so no seeds could contaminate it- many seeds have already sprouted from the soil

2. In some land surrounding an old Castle (formerly belonging to the Regent Murry near Moffat) 6-8 inches of peat was removed revealing "a stratum of soil. .which is supposed to have been a cultivated garden in the time of the regent" . .. a variety of flowers and plants have grown from the soil, "some of them little known even at this time in Scotland."

Reported in New England Farmer, Vol2, No 1, p. 39, Saturday, January 5, 1850
