Are you talking about the refraction of light by planets moving in front of stars which mimck the affect of light bending at a distance of 30 light years? If you think of it a planets atmosphere continues for a good 2000km and light can be bent by any planet at a distance from 1500km away,refract it and make the light source look like it is being sucked in by a blackhole when in reality it is actually being refractedredshift You assume that we will forever be limited by these vast distances, I like to think we will discover something that will make travel to the stars a real possibility. The current figure is assumed to be 156 bln l/y +/-. It could however be many times larger than that (we don't know, because we do not know the topology (or the shape) of the universe.
