hi everyone,

what is the nture of universe from travelling point of view?is it 2d or 3d?

i mean we know our solar system, sun being at centre while planets etc. in orbits.

what will happen if from earth we travel perpendiculr to the plane of solar system instead of going from centre of the solar system outwards. will we reach some other system/planets??what is above and below earth??

The universe is not 2D. It is 3D. Though, with the contributions of Relativity Theory, modern physicists consider the universe to be 3 dimensions of space and 1 dimension of time, making the universe 4D. Others have suggested that the universe has other dimensions that are hidden from our senses. M-Theory seeks to answer such questions.

Most likely, Eventually, yes.

what is above and below earth??

It depends on what you mean by above and below. Above the north pole is Polaris and above the south pole is Octantis. This changes due to the Earth's precession. To read more about this, look at the wiki for pole stars.

u mean that it is like a almirah and we r at one shelf while there r other shelves below and above us???

but that should create gravitatonal force on all planets and sun as well in up or down plane.but they show no such force.

also none of them moves in vertical plane.

planets revolve around sun and sun itself around centre of milky way which itself is a spiral shaped.

m-theory is just a integration of 5 string theories into one

string theory showed how all the particles, and all of the forms of energy in the universe, could be constructed by hypothetical one-dimensional "strings," infinitely small building-blocks that have only the dimension of length, but not height or width

i was not talking about polaris.

what i meant was that is it possible that our earth has neigbours not only in the plane of solar system but perpindicular to it as well.

one more thing--

if universe is 3d<in travelling sense>then how will we locate say a star or planet from earth.for example alpha centauri is 4.37 light years away but which direction or angle from us???it is never mentioned

I think I see what you are saying. First of all, the plane of the solar system is relative. You can make a plane with the sun and neptune's orbit and get a completely different plane from the sun and earth's orbit.

But to answer your question, no. The distance to even the nearest star at over 4 light years away is too distant, and thus gravity too weak, to cause any kind of orbiting phenomena with our neighbors. Us and all of our neighbors are already in orbit around the center of the Milky Way, as you pointed out.
