justforfun Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 I feel that by participating in basketball it saved me from being placed in that category. 'Nerd' just has some, for me, negative connotations. No, not me. uh uh! Quote
Doktor Faust Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 I vote no. I probably SEEM nerdy to some people, but I think that's because most people don't take an interest in most of the things I do. I have very eclectic tastes, I think; what I love ranges from Japanese rock and classic literature to biology and medicine. *laughs* Well, at least most of the people that I hang out with a lot take little or no interest in science-related things, so in their eyes, I probably would be a nerd; then again, it certainly depends on how far you want to take the definition of the word. :3 Quote
C1ay Posted March 18, 2005 Report Posted March 18, 2005 Nope, I can be a loner at times but I'm definitely not socially awkward. According to the Geek Test I'm around 50% geek. FWIW my geek code is BEGIN GEEK CODE BLOCKVersion: 3.1GO d- s+:+>: a+ C++(+++) UL++> P+++ L++ E- W++ N++ |o K w O+ M? V? Sporadicus Posted March 19, 2005 Report Posted March 19, 2005 The pocket protector has been used by the scientifically-challenged as the defining characteristic of the nerd, but it's an accessory I wear proudly. I take it to a higher level, since I have three separate pocket protectors: one for metallurgical purposes, one for electronics, and one for the chemical lab. Sometimes my tasks overlap, so I have one in my shirt pocket and one in my lab-coat pocket. I find these implements indispensable during my daily activities, but I still catch some good-natured flak over it. Those in my worksphere never seem to mind when I instantly produce a spring-loaded center punch, a flexible 6" steel rule, or a continuity tester for electrical circuits without running to fetch one of these essential gadgets, however. C1ay Posted March 20, 2005 Report Posted March 20, 2005 Nerd test:http://www.wxplotter.com/ft_nq.php I just did it, and I got some very suprising results... so I'm not sure if the test is accurate at all.My nerd score is 84%...which is a High-Level Nerd!!!!they even got me this picture: http://www.wxplotter.com/images/ft/nq.php?val=5753 I got an 89%, High Level Nerd. I don't think it's a good test though, it seemed more geeky than nerdy. IMO, the fact that I use Firefox for instance has nothing what-so-ever with being a nerd. I also don't think building my own PC with 512+MB of RAM to run Linux on has much to do with being nerdy but that's just my opinion... Quote
Fishteacher73 Posted March 21, 2005 Report Posted March 21, 2005 I only got an 88%....Reconfirms my belief that I am not a nerd, but a dork...But hey, I do have fun sitting at the coffee shop and pounding hapless victims at Scrabble.. ....heheheheh :friday: Quote
kaelcarp Posted March 21, 2005 Report Posted March 21, 2005 I suppose I'm not as much of a nerd as I thought. I got a 24. I'm not really a hard science nerd. I'm more of a social science nerd. Quote
Tormod Posted March 21, 2005 Report Posted March 21, 2005 I got 35 and a "Not nerdy, but definitely not hip" message. :friday: Quote

IrishEyes Posted March 21, 2005 Report Posted March 21, 2005 I'm blaming it all on nemo...!I mean, really! There is just no way that I am a nerd OR a geek. How silly to even suggest such a thing! You'll see in May - I'm about the farthest thing from either you can imagine. Oh yeah, got a wonderful box in the mail today. TeleMad Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 Ok, that test is just messed up- I got a 93!!! Rats, you just beat me. I'm a supreme nerd at 91%. I think the things that did me in was that I admitted to using AOL and Windows: that drops nerd points. Quote
infamous Posted March 22, 2005 Report Posted March 22, 2005 I personally don't consider myself intelligent enough to qualify for Nerdship, but I'm still working on it. Let's just say that I'm in training and with a little luck, someday I'll get my diploma, Nerd Master. Quote
Aki Posted March 22, 2005 Author Report Posted March 22, 2005 Aki, find a different test, ok? I need to find out if this is true or not... I found this test, but it's really long.... err ... here it is:http://home.rochester.rr.com/jbennett/nerd/n500test.html let me know how accurate it is.... Quote
