hey, I am thinking of writting an essay for a contest. And I would like to know, what equasions and factors do you need to look at to bend light without a massive body to bend the light around?

A thesis is an *original* contribution to human knowledge. Are you planning to give due and proper credit to your sources?

 

In a medium, refractive index via the Kramers-Kronig relationship. In a medium, transverse velocity of the medium relative to an inertial observer. In a medium, total internal reflection. In a medium, composition variation. In a medium, internal strain. In a medium, metamaterials. In vacuum... nothing. In less than vacuum, the Scharnhorst effect - but it has practical problems.
