pamela Posted September 9, 2009 Report Posted September 9, 2009 well i certainly never took your comment as one to have meant annihilating all religious folk as did moontanman's.And i being a lover of humanity regardless of religious beliefs, stand by all people having a right to live;) Quote
C1ay Posted September 9, 2009 Report Posted September 9, 2009 Let's see. What will happen in 2012? Well, for one there will be 2 solar eclipses, one on May 20 and the other on November 13. The first will be an annular eclipse and the second will be a total eclipse. DFINITLYDISTRUBD 1 Quote
REASON Posted September 9, 2009 Report Posted September 9, 2009 My daughter will be entering her Senior year in High School. :phones: - Where has the time gone? (Wait, it's only 2009. It hasn't all gone yet. ) Quote
Pyrotex Posted September 9, 2009 Report Posted September 9, 2009 In 2012, fat with the profits they made on books and movies about the end of the world coming in 2012, the authors and contributors to the "2012 Scare" will all meet on a yacht in the French Riviera with their scantily clad mistresses, and toast the gullibility and stupidity of the American public, who raised them from rags to riches. Then they will consort together over dessert and brandy, and create the next scare: "What will happen in 2021 when the planets reach Ultimate Grand Alignment, which they do only once every 14,320 years!" "The last Ultimate Grand Alignment triggered the Ice Age, the first eruption of Krakatoa, and the evolution of the common cold virus!" OH!! MY!! GOD!! WE'RE!! ALL!! GONNA!! DIE!! Run for the hills! [but buy all our books and videos first] :phones:  :) freeztar 1 Quote

lemit Posted September 16, 2009 Report Posted September 16, 2009 I have been pondering this subject for quite awhile. Will the sun engulf the earth in a flame and kill all flora and fuana. or will we mutate in some golden concious stage. Yes, we will live in a wonderful world in which all people will know how to spell conscious. --lemit Donk 1 Quote
Pyrotex Posted September 18, 2009 Report Posted September 18, 2009 Seriously folks, :) if the Future in, say, 2150, from our vantage point Now (2008), looks anything like Now from the vantage point of 1750, then: The means of personal transportation available will boggle our minds. Oh, sure, we'll be able to understand the "wheels" and "blades" and "windows", but how they pull it all off will be beyond our ken. The culture will be beyond our understanding. At least one "Major Caramba" in the flow of history will have occurred, leaving almost nothing left of what we take for granted with our movie theatres, televisions, arts and crafts, and all our Fun Things to Do on a Saturday Night. There might not even BE a Saturday Night. Clothing, sexuality and "family values" will be totally alien to us, and of course, just plain common sense to "them". We will not be able to wander loose in their society without offending someone (many someones), being ourselved grossly offended, or getting ourselves killed. The means of public communication of news and entertainment will depend on technologies that we don't even see coming. They will be able to teach us to use some of these venues, in a limited fashion, but we will never master them or learn to control our environment with them like they do. We will be Neanderthals with a large vocabulary, roaming Greenspoint Mall or The Galleria, and playing with the public telephones. The means by which energy and money are created, manipulated, and distributed will be --- we won't even have the words and concepts necessary to even attempt an understanding, so our hosts in the Future won't even try to explain. Many countries of Now will no longer exist. Even the concept "country" may be obsolete. We will not understand their values or their major issues. They will either pity us, or place us on romantic pillars, but they will generally have no more understanding of Our Day, then we do of theirs. Except for their professional historians. You won't like the food. Boerseun 1 Quote

pamela Posted September 21, 2009 Report Posted September 21, 2009 this thread was started by a young teenager looking for answers. As with most young impressionable kids, the odd, paranormal and mystical element intrigues them.I think it only fair and mature to give such guidance towards what is factual and in support of science in the most respectful of ways. RCP/CRT/RRT Posted September 21, 2009 Report Posted September 21, 2009 this thread was started by a young teenager looking for answers. As with most young impressionable kids, the odd, paranormal and mystical element intrigues them.I think it only fair and mature to give such guidance towards what is factual and in support of science in the most respectful of ways. Pamela (voice of reason, respectfully) In the context of my reply, I'm just putting it perspective. No crystal ball prophecies here... The Earth has passed through the galactic plane many, many times in its four billion year history... Its still here... There is no significant evidence to suggest doom is eminent in relation to this go around.... Our biggest current, relevant, and threatening demise is our own stupidity, ie. We all need to think and live green and use our resources responsibly, wean our dependence on non-renewable resources, etc.. But not in relation to the Mayan calendar, unless driving a diesel on cooking oil can be interpreted as a global transcendence, haha... Hardly mystical belief of the heart.... Quote
RCP/CRT/RRT Posted September 21, 2009 Report Posted September 21, 2009 I totally agree with Pyrotex... Values, fame & money, on & on.... I'll go out on a limb here and assert the biggest transcendence of humanity will be to realize we are on our own... Grow up and take care of what we have, there will be no intervention, no saving grace... Oh crap, was that my crystal ball?? Quote
Moontanman Posted September 21, 2009 Report Posted September 21, 2009 I agree with Pamela, no reason what so ever to include anyone's mysticism, predictions or anything else of that nature. Contrary to what most think I have some mystical beliefs and experiences but I keep them to my self, they are personal and I share them rarely and then only with special people who are capable to understanding that these things are only inside of me and not for influencing anyone else. Advocating such things when answering a question such as this is counterproductive to the intent of this forum and detrimental to the OP and his need for an answer. I'll say it again if the real answer has been lost in translation. "There is no reason to think that 2012 will be any different than any other year, doomsayers and Prophets come and go, they are seldom if ever accurate even about small things much less end of the world scenarios." If I had a $ for every time I've heard some say they know what is going to happen in the future or that claims to have special information they have obtained somehow outside spacetime I would be able to buy that dream motorcycle I want at least. This is a science forum and answering this question with mysticism and claims of the paranormal are counterproductive the forum and to the OP. True it is sad that such poppycock is being claimed as real by the media, at the very least we should be offering the voice of reason not just the same mystic silliness warmed over by yet another fakir.
