Ahh. That shows how long it's been since I've read up on sting theory.

Like any theory, it is relatively useful. In our times of accelerating change, theories need daily upgrades, like everything else. There will be no final knowing while we are still human. We live in interesting times.

I'm still waiting for some proof before I fall into step with any form of string theory. It seems we have multitudinous variations and there are a few scientists that claim that there may be an infinite number of theories possible. I must say that this all sounds like many are bowing to convenience to support an untestable and unproveable hypothesis. In fact Websters defines a hypothesis as an unproved theory. I contend that string theory should be refered to as string hypothesis and not string theory. There is about as much proof for aliens as there is for string theory.

The other front runner for the unified theory is the Loop Quantum Gravity.

 

As to proof for string theory... wait 'til 2006 at LHC:)

I doubt that the LHC will proof string theory...

 

It might prove supersymmetry though..
