pamela Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 ewww! i think i would rather live with my asthma and allergies than having worms in my gut:eek: Quote
Moontanman Posted September 29, 2009 Author Report Posted September 29, 2009 Almost anyone who keeps dogs in their house has some worms, I'm not sure if they are the same worms in this article. If indeed the presence of worms does desensitize the immune system then natural selection could have driven the immune system to be more sensitive. Then eliminating the worms causes the immune system to cause problems. Lots of illnesses are the result of an overly sensitive immune system. I know that my allergies are a living hell unless I take things like Zertec or Claritin. I'm not sure i want to intentionally swallow worms eggs to calm my immune system but possibly the chemical used by the worms might be a source of allergy medication eventually. Quote
freeztar Posted September 29, 2009 Report Posted September 29, 2009 There's a good discussion on this in the Parasites thread. It's quite interesting. Quote
