Oh I have options for the folks who simply can't obey rules too.

Yes, it's okay to prefer the book, but it bears about as much resemblance to the movies as any of Jules Verne's books do to their movie adaptations....boooooooooorrrrrrrrring!

I will say that anyone who picks Battle--which I've never been able to stay awake through--is truly out of their mind....

I saw the Charleston Heston version in the theatre. I was a teenager at the time, I think.

I was not impressed. Most of the "science" and "technology" was bogus, and I remember being unable to suspend my disbelief, even for a movie starring Moses his own self.

I saw bits and pieces of the others on TV, never a complete movie or episode. I couldn't stand any of them. Booooooooorrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnnggg.

Give me Robinson Crusoe on Mars.

What "science and technology?" You mean the nets and wooden carts the Gorillas used to capture the humans with?

Or maybe the talking doll?

Maybe you're thinking of a different movie, dear....maybe The Omega Man?

The original, no doubt!

Now there's another movie that I could not stay awake through...until the Mystery Science Theater version!

Apparently Best Brains always wanted to MSTify one of the Apes movies but they could never negotiate the licensing fees....

May the Blessings of the Bomb Almighty, and the Fellowship of the Holy Fallout, descend upon us all. This day and forever more, :phones:

Here's showing my age, or lack thereof...

I was not aware that this was more than a couple movies!

I saw the original and was unimpressed. If I wanted to see crappy sets with unrealistic fight scenes and crappy acting (sorry Mr. Heston-don't shoot me) I would much rather watch Star Trek.

The original was ok. Since it is the only one I've seen, or care to see until those apes work on their MST negotiating skills, I'll refrain from voting.

Well of course that's one reason I put in the remake: a lot of the "younger crowd" to whom the original movies are "camp" find the remake quite watchable with its new script and modern production values. It even features a hunky Mark Wahlberg and a scantily clad Estella Warren. What's not to like?

Unfortunately the poor direction and production values did get in the way of the original, which nonetheless was written by Rod Serling and shows it...

Don't look for it, Taylor. You may not like what you find, :phones:

No, dearest Buffster. I mean the "hi-tech" backpacks that Moses and his Redshirt carried after climbing out of their "space-ship", and the space-ship, and the whole idea of circling back to Earth in 1,000 years or less (or the Statue of Lib would have dissolved), and apes evolving intelligence, speech (American English, no less!) in 1,000 years or less. Nah! :naughty:

Although Battle was my least favorite, I loved them all.

My favorite science fiction isn't the science fiction with the shiniest special affects, it is those movies that actually say something about the human condition. About social topics which can be addressed when more mundane stories don't dare 'go there'.

That is the reason I still like the original star trek, even though the special effects were terrible. The stories are what made the shows, not the 'Kirk Fu';)

How amazing that I was just having this conversation with a friend last night. Got to go with the first as it was the best made movie, and for me had the best overall story. Screenplay by Rod Sterling if I remember correctly.

That's it? Backpacks too small? Time warp not computationally correct according to Einstein (you must *detest* Star Trek, eh?)? Copper and steel not dissolving as quickly as it should if it were exposed for 1000 years (did'ja think about it being buried and then rexposed just like Ardi? Maybe all that radiation transmogrified it?)?

That's too bad because you missed the point:

:) :cheer:

Well, I'm sure it was all a "youthful indiscretion"...I'm sure you're much wiser now! ;)

If you obey all of the rules, you miss all of the fun, :phones:

Just a note for anyone interested.

The Fox Movie Channel (FMC) has the various planet of the apes movies and a half hour special looking at the series playing all weekend:)

They even did a TV movie from 1974!!
