I love beer

I mean, I reallly really love beer,

Throughout the years I've enjoyed many varieties from the unbelievably cheap (well till you taste it) to the who the hell would pay that much for a bottle of it.

What has it all taught me?

Stuffy bier afishinados (or how'er the f*** you spell it) really like bitter beer with crap (sediment type stuff) in it...the nastier it tastes and the more it aggrivates your insides the more they talk about how good it is... and usually the more it costs....in short their idiots:D

Good beer comes in quantity, is readily affordable, doesn't inspire the trots, goes down easier than sodipop, and most importantly stays down.

For years after I graduated from highest alcohol lowest cost per can (which was always the canadian import Black label and Natural Ice or the american made Genesee cream ale :))

my favorite was Miller High for regularr boozin and mississippi mud for special occasions.

Coming from a state with a great brewing/brewery history (We still have some of the best breweries in the world almost all from german brewing roots) I have decided to get more adventurous and try some of the brews that made american beers great.

My first leap out of my comfort zone (beer is a rare treat and one case must last so a bad beer is a very very sad loss of brew funds) is Pittsburgh born Iron City Beer which surprisingly is different depending on whether you get bottles or cans.

My first impression of the bottled version was surprise. It has very small fine carbonation with no bite. VERY Smoooooooth, very nice, mild nutty flavor, and a very pretty amber pour with little foam (head). truely a lovely brew.

The canned version is different in character.

It is aggressively fizzy which I'd attribute to artificial carbonation (shame really).

But that aside the same nutty with a little hint of a cider tart still invites consumption.

All in all to me it was worth the extra 10 bucks...considering It compares very favorably with the much more expensive and very delicious Newcastle Brown Ale.

you're only not allowed in the Lounge because you didn't ask to be allowed in the Lounge. send a pm to an admin and ask for Lounge permission. knock, and the door shall open. :)

as for beer, i'm pretty stuck on IPA's and just one brand of IPA that i found best after mucho test tasting (taste testing? ) :phones: oh, that would be Broken Halo IPA from Widmer Brothers in Portland Oregon, just across the mighty Columbia from me. the broken halo runs about $7 to $8.50 US dollars per six-pack.

Widmer Brothers - Drink Responsibly

Broken Halo IPA is a beer produced in the spirit of traditional IPA products shipped from the UK to India in the late 1800s. The almost excessive amounts of Cascade and Columbus hops used in Broken Halo give it notable citrus and grapefruit aromas and flavors. The beer bitterness measures high but tastes smooth due to the full-bodied, Caramel malt sweetness. The finish is juicy, clean, and short lived. A devilishly bold, heavenly smooth India Pale Ale.

i did this week hower break tradition & drink a 20 oz Arrogant Bastard and enjoyed it very well thank you very mush...much. :beer-fresh:

You sound like the type of feller that would enjoy a Skull Splitter....To me bitter beer is a waste of perfectly good malt:hihi:

But of course to each his/her own I know many that love bitter brew and just as many that love pudwiper, la splatz, and coors (and apparently the shats that follow:hihi:).

Ironically I used (many moons ago) to love a Guinness on occasion....hated the wicked heartburn it inflicted though.

:rotfl: :friday: and here i have no beer!! not today anyway. :( Skullsplitter looks worth tasting aright. :hihi:

SkullSplitter - Orkney Brewery - BeerAdvocate

Taste: Big alcohol prickle right from the beginning in the form of dried cherries and brandy flavors. There are also some nice medium-sweet caramel candy flavors, but the alcohol comes through so strongly that they're kind of pushed to the back. Tasty beer for sure, but the alcohol fairly screams through this one, a bit more than expected at only 8.5% abv. This ends with alcohol, some puckering fruit, and a bit of minerality/smokiness which is nice. Hop bitterness is just bairly perceived on the finish.

...

anything with an offensive/aggressive label is worth tryin' in my book.  :D oregon, and portland in particular have a booming micro-brew industry that is nothing short of heaven. :angel2: course, in heaven there is no beer, that's why we drink it here, and when we're gone from here, our friends will be drinking all the beer.

Northwest Microbrew | Oregon's Agricultural Progress

i honestly don't recall ever drinking a guinness. prolly they got a lame label. ;)

i like some of the Rogue brewery stuff, but again initially drawn by in-yer-face labeling. :hyper: i think i started with their Yellow Snow IPA. :dog: :snow::)

I wonder if anybody knows what causes alcohol induced sobriety:confused:

wonder if it really matters?

So there's beer on the moon? Or did I misread the "Recent Threads" list?

--lemit

you misread. it's "there's bear on the moon". but they drink beer, the bears that is. that's code , "bear" that is, for the soviets, meaning the russians are already living on the moon and drinking beer there. prolly, but not necessarily, russian beer. :) it's not widely known, but most the guys in this commercial are cosmonauts. the girl is their daughter, conceived on Luna Base 1. :friday:
