Okay so we have a raging debate in our household this week.

 

People Magazine just announced that for the second year, Johnny Depp is the Sexiest Man Alive.

 

 

I have no problem with that, I *love* Johnny Depp! (scarily, "Ed Wood" is one of my favorite pictures of all time....)

 

On the otherhand, my daughter who will be lined up at midnight tomorrow night for the first showing of New Moon, insists that Robert Pattinson should have won.

 

 

Okay, I read and love all the Twilight books (no, they're not just for teen girls...), and he's great as Edward Cullen, but no, I still go for Johnny. And not just because I'd be cradle robbing...

 

Now I know I can get Pam and Chac to vote, but you guys ought to be able to pick one (or suggest an alternate)!

It was a recurring skit on Saturday Night Live back in the "old days" mostly with Bill Murray or Dan Ackroyd as the host of a game show entitled "Quien es mas macho?" where the contestants debated who was more macho, with one of the options always being Ricardo Montalban versus one other famous actor, Fernando Lamas, Jack (pronounced "Hack" of course) Lord, Patrick McGoohan, etc.

 

You had to be there I guess, and unfortunately NBC has been really good at keeping such stuff off YouTube....

Forget the "tough-guy" aspect of "macho": in Latino culture, "macho" is much closer to "sexy" than it is for the Gringos....so I changed the poll question...

I think the other guy is only found to be sexy for his role in the movie, while I can say that Johnny is a cool guy independently of his movies...

Not really. It's more along the lines of chauvinism than sex appeal. Actually, I don't think macho connotates sexiness at all in Latin use.
