Science Awards that should have been made.

 

Marcus Chown's silly science awards for 2009

Hi, my name's Marcus Chown, and I write popular science books.

The other day I had to write an article about pulsars, tiny spinning neutron stars which flash a lighthouse beam around the heavens. It got me thinking that there have now been three Nobel Prizes for pulsars, and not one of them has gone to Jocelyn Bell, who actually discovered them in 1967. How unfair is that!

Anyhow, one thought led to another, and I got to musing on other slightly sillier awards that scientists should have got, but didn't. Here they are.

 

My first award is for most smelly but lovely man, and the award goes to

 

My next award is for Most Baffled by the Concept of a Cat Flap. And the award goes to

 

My next award is for Most Likely Never to get the Credit and Recognition They Deserve. And the award goes to . . .seems cursed never to get the credit she deserves, unless of course you out there spread the word about her.

 

The next award is for Best Impression of Mr. Spock by a Front Rank Scientist. And the award goes to

 

The next award is for Easiest Notebooks to Read at Midnight During a Powercut. And the award goes to

 

My final award is for Most Ridiculously Stupid Idea that Might Just Conceivably be True. And the award goes to
